How to put iPhone 5 and 4S in DFU MODE

Many iPhone users might have wondered about the DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode as it is needed at the time of upgrading or downloading firmware, rebooting the device after Jailbreaking it or for any other purpose. So if you are going to Jailbreak youe iPhone 4S, you will need to put your iPhone into DFU mode.

Before going for Jailbreak, I am just reminding you the Jailbreaking can cause harm to your iDevice as it can crash your firmware, your device may stuck in infinite boot loop, or if you are quite unlucky, your device may not boot at all. So please be careful before Jailbreaking your device.
But don’t worry! Booting your iPhone 5 in DFU mode will not cause any problems to your system software in any cases. It is a quite an easy task to force your Apple device into Firmware Update stat and get back into the iOS.

Prerequisites :-
  • You will need a computer or laptop with iTunes installed on it.

Steps for putting iPhone into the DFU Mode

Simply follow the simple steps given here to do so:
  • Plug the USB cable with your iPhone 4S and the computer.
  • Launch the iTunes from the computer.
  • Turn off the iPhone.
  • First press the Power button for 3 seconds and then press Home and Power button together for around 10 seconds.
  • Now release the Power button only without releasing the Home button.
  • You will get a message box from the iTunes saying “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode”
  • As you see the above said message, release the Home button.
That’s it. Congratulation, Now your device is booted in DFU mode successfully. It should be noted then your screen will be totally black during but you can still connect your device with Jailbreaking software or iTunes. It should be noted that, If you see iTunes logo or any other logo or message on your iPhone then It is not in a Device Firmware Update mode but it is in Recovery mode.
  • Now at any time you want to get out from the DFU mode, simply press and hold the Power and Home button simultaneously until your device shows the Apple logo on it.
